The meetings of Minister Ciamba with the directors of the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO)

Minister Delegate for European Affairs George Ciamba met with Christian Archambeau, Executive Director of the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO), and with Francis Gurry, Director General of the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), today, March 4, 2019. The meeting took place in the margins of the two officials’ participation in the conference “The Future of Industrial Property in Europe – Challenges and Perspective”, organised by the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council in Bucharest.

The talks focused on issues of particular interest in the field of intellectual property, both from the perspective of the European Agenda and from that of its international dimension. The minister delegate underlined the importance granted by the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council to the field of intellectual property, given its ever-increasing role in the international economic relations.

To this end, the Romanian official underlined the progress of the Romanian Presidency of the EU Council in this field, with an emphasis on concluding negotiations on the draft directive in the field of copyright in the single market, which will help ensure that the European regulatory framework is adapted to the progress of digital technologies.

Minister George Ciamba expressed his appreciation for the good cooperation between the two institutions, i.e. the EU Intellectual Property Office (EUIPO) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), and their counterpart Romanian organisations, the State Office for Inventions and Trademarks (OSIM) and the Romanian Copyright Office (ORDA), and expressed confidence that this cooperation will continue in the future, as well.
