Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu Meets with His Counterpart from the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Pham Binh Minh

Minister of foreign affairs Bogdan Aurescu held a bilateral meeting with the minister of foreign affairs of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, Pham Binh Minh, in the margins of the Asia-Europe Foreign Ministers’ Meeting in Madrid, on December 16, 2019.

The discussions of the two senior officials highlighted the positive dynamics of the bilateral political dialogue and the very good cooperation within the regional and international forums. At the suggestion of the Romanian minister of foreign affairs, the two senior officials agreed to organize relevant events next year to mark 70 years of diplomatic relations between the two states.

Minister Bogdan Aurescu reiterated Romania's support for the development of EU-Vietnam relations, recently strengthened by the signing, during the Romanian Presidency of the Council of the European Union, of the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) and of the Agreement on Investment Protection (AIP).

The two officials stressed the need to substantiate the economic dimension of Romanian-Vietnamese relations, insisting on measures aimed at promoting bilateral trade. The Romanian minister pleaded for the rapid completion of the accreditation process of the Romanian exports of products of animal origin, honey and agricultural products on the market of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

In turn, minister Pham Binh Minh highlighted the potential for developing bilateral cooperation regarding the labour market. At the same time, the cooperation in the field of education was approached. Minister Bogdan Aurescu recalled the large number of Vietnamese people who graduate from Romanian educational institutions – they are speakers of Romanian and hold important positions in Vietnam.

Also, the two ministers discussed the very good cooperation of the two states within the international organizations, especially within the UN.
