Minister of Foreign Affairs Teodor Baconschi was a special guest, on 18 January, at a business mixer with members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Romania – AmCham.

In his address, the head of the Romanian diplomacy reiterated the importance of enhancing the role of economic diplomacy in identifying and supporting Romania’s economic interests abroad. Minister Baconschi emphasized the Foreign Ministry’s role as a facilitator of successful partnerships between authorities and the foreign business environment in Romania, as also the need for concerted efforts by the Romanian authorities to ensure sustainable economic growth, based on investment.

The Foreign Minister spoke of the very good Romanian-American cooperation and the role of the business community in promoting the economic component of the Strategic Partnership with the US, the groundwork of our bilateral dialogue. The Romanian official welcomed the steady interest of American firms in the Romanian markets and encouraged the development of investment programmes with Romania as their destination.

Significant projects for Romania at a national, but also regional or continental level, in various areas – from energy exploration and exploitation, unconventional energy, to agriculture, infrastructure or transports – can be of interest also to American firms and companies,” stated the head of the Romanian diplomacy.

The USA is one of the first 7 foreign investors in Romania, with 6,027 firms and an aggregated 1.5 billion dollars invested, that stand for about 4% of the total foreign direct investment. The main fields in Romania to have attracted American investment are IT&C, electronics, chemical industry, woodworking, the food industry, and commerce.
