Minister Teodor Baconschi to attend London Conference on Libya

Press release

Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi will attend, on 29 March 2011, the London international conference on Libya.

The head of the Romanian diplomacy will uphold the need for concerted, efficient action under NATO coordination and in partnership with other states, including states from the region, with a view to enforcing the UN Security Council resolutions and ensuring civilians are protected. Teodor Baconschi will reiterate Romania’s stance on participating in a NATO framework in the enforcement of the arms embargo.

The conference rallies NATO and EU member states, states from the region in point, representatives of international bodies (the UN, the African Union, NATO, and Organization of the Islamic Conference), and other countries that are willing to contribute (militarily or financially) to implementing Security Council Resolutions 1970 and 1973.

The purpose of the conference is to discuss developments in Libya, notably following the Summit in Paris and the measures related to further implementing the above mentioned resolutions, at a military and non-military level (sanctions, humanitarian assistance etc.).
