Romania, president of the International Exhibitions Bureau (BIE) 2011-2013

Romania took over the presidency of the Bureau International des Exposition (BIE) on the occasion of the 150th BIE General Assembly held on 22-23 November 2011 in Paris. Ferdinand Nagy was elected president for a two-year term, taking over the office of president from Ambassador Jean-Pierre Lafon (France).

The BIE presidency held by Romania offers a major opportunity for promoting Romania’s image in the international environment, especially in the context of BIE’s activities in the next two years.

Romania is a founding member of the Bureau International des Exposition, an intergovernmental organization set up in Paris in 1928, which oversees the calendar, the bidding, the selection, and the organization of World and International Expos. Currently the organization rallies 161 member states and enjoys international visibility.
