Foreign Minister receives Ambassador of Italy to Bucharest  02.08.2010
 

Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi today has received Mario Cospito, Ambassador of the Republic of Italy in Bucharest. BR>The issues on the agenda concerned: the evolution of political relations within the consolidated strategic partnership between the two countries; organizing the second Romanian-Italian Inter-Governmental Summit this year; continued development of bilateral cooperation in the economic, cultural and social fields; cooperation on matters of shared interest within the European Union.
Both sides reasserted their desire to intensify diplomatic dialog, and to identify new cooperation projects in a bilateral and international framework.

State Secretary Bogdan Aurescu attends Munich Security Conference 02.06.2010

The Conference traditionally brings together senior security and defense policy decision-makers from around the world. This is one of the most visible events of its kind and draws highly prestigious participation from the government and non-governmental circles.
The meeting’s agenda includes current issues such as: resource security and shifting global power; the future of European and global security; arms control and the prospects of regional security in the Middle East; NATO’s future, with a focus on the New Strategic Concept and the Alliance’s role in Afghanistan.

Foreign Minister holds working meeting with heads of diplomatic missions from Arab League states 02.05.2010
 

Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi had a meeting today with the heads of diplomatic missions from the Arab League states.
The head of the Romanian diplomacy pointed out the solid cooperation ties between Romania and the Arab League states, emphasizing the importance of adding value to the political and economic resources and the traditional social-cultural ties, in order to deepen and diversify Romania’s relationship with the Arab world.
The Romanian Foreign Ministers submitted to the foreign diplomats a short- and medium-term projection of Romania's major interests in relation to the Arab world in general and the Arab League states in particular.

Foreign Minister meets with UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan 02.05.2010
 

Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi had a meeting today with Kai Eide, UN Secretary General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan. The Special Representative expressed his personal gratitude to the Romanian authorities for their direct support in his work as head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), in the field of security and immediate protection. He especially noted the professionalism, dedication and human qualities of the Romanian team he had worked with. He also extended thanks, on behalf of the UN Secretary General, for the outstanding institutional effort of the Romanian Government to establish a Center in Bucharest for the training of UN peace-keepers specializing in immediate protection.
Minister Baconschi reminded Romania's firm and consistent presence, on multiple levels, in Afghanistan, for as long as the international community considers it necessary and until the established goals are attained.

Romania’s Pavilion at Expo 2010 is 90% complete 02.05.2010
 

Commissioner General for World Exhibitions Ferdinand Nagy, together with the committee for the official acceptance of work, paid a visit to Shanghai on January 29 - February 5, for the intermediate official acceptance of construction work on Romania’s Pavilion at Expo 2010.
At the moment the Pavilion building is 90% complete. By the end of February 2010 all building work will have been finished, and in March and April audio-video-lighting-multimedia equipment will be installed and the functionality of the infrastructure and equipment tested.
The visit occasioned talks with Hu Jinjun, Deputy Director General of the Coordination Bureau, and with the Expo 2010 department heads. The talks covered issues relating to the specific activities to be carried out during the Exhibition, such as traditional customs, cultural events, business forums, protocol activities.

Meeting between Teodor Baconschi and Oren David 02.04.2010
 

Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi received today the Ambassador of the State of Israel in Bucharest, Oren David.
On this occasion there were approached issues regarding the evolution of political relations between the two countries, characterized by good understanding and cooperation; the ongoing bilateral cooperation projects; elements of shared interest with immediate relevance on the international agenda; and aspects of the political and security situation in the Middle East.
The talks confirmed the Romanian and Israeli sides’ desire to further and strengthen their political dialog in the bilateral and multilateral dimensions and, concurrently, cooperation in multiple sectors of activity.

MFA statement on the suspension of its labor relations with Silviu Ionescu 02.04.2010
 

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs has decided to suspend, as of February 4, 2010, its labor relationship with Mr. Silviu Ionescu during the period of the criminal investigations he is subject to, undertaken by the prosecutors of the Criminal Investigations and Criminalistics Unit.
Considering the charges brought against Mr. Ionescu by the Prosecutor’s Office attached to the High Court of Cassation and Justice, namely manslaughter, unauthorized departure from a vehicle accident site and misrepresentation, the decision to suspend the labor relationship is justified given the provisions of Art. 60 of Law 269/2003 (Statute of Romania’s Diplomatic and Consular Corps).

Foreign Minister receives Ambassador of the Netherlands to Bucharest 02.04.2010
 

Romanian Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi today has received Tanya van Gool, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Bucharest.
A number of issues of the bilateral political and economic agenda were approached on this occasion – an agenda marked this year by the anniversary of 130 years since diplomatic relations were established between the two countries: high-level political dialog; access for Romanian citizens to the Dutch labor market; more in-depth bilateral sectorial cooperation.
The sides expressed shared interest in continued development of bilateral trade, as the Netherlands has been for a while now the largest foreign investor in Romania.
