MONICA GHEORGHIȚĂ

State Secretary
 

MONICA GHEORGHIȚĂ was appointed State Secretary for Global Affairs (Asia, Africa, Latin America, Middle East) on 18 January 2017. She is a career diplomat who joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in 2005. Previously she served as an expert in the Prime Minister`s Office.

During her diplomatic career she worked in the head office of the MFA, first in the Department for Relations with Romanian Communities Abroad (2005-2006), then in the Directorate General for Judicial Affairs (2007-2009). In 2009-2010 she was an adviser to the Minister of Foreign Affairs. Between 2010-2016 she worked in the Asia-Pacific Division, where she coordinated successively different desks in charge of Romania`s relations with Asian states and the multilateral diplomacy associated with the Asian continent. In 2016-2017 she briefly served as Director for Asia-Pacific.

As a graduate of the Department of Law of the University of Bucharest (2003) and of the Institute of Business Law and International Cooperation Nicolae Titulescu-Henri Capitant (post-graduate studies in French) of the same University, she was the first Romanian diplomat accepted to the Foreign Service program of the Oxford University on a Chevening scholarship (post-graduate studies, 2006-2007). She has a master degree in international relations, conflict analysis and management from the National School of Political and Administrative Studies (2008). In 2012 she obtained the title of doctor in military and intelligence studies from the National Intelligence Academy. In 2014-2015 she did post-doctoral studies at the Institute for World Economy of the Romanian Academy.

Speaks fluently English, is proficient in French and Spanish and has an intermediate level in German and Chinese.
