2004

26 February 2004 – The Parliament of Romania unanimously passes the law on accession to the North Atlantic Treaty.

1 March 2004 – The law on accession to the North Atlantic Treaty is promulgated by President Ion liescu.

4 March 2004 – Mr. Ion Iliescu signs Romania’s accession instrument to the North Atlantic Treaty

29 March 2004 – The Prime Minister of Romania, Mr. Adrian Năstase, submits Romania’s accession instrument to the North Atlantic Treaty, Washington, USA 

2 April 2004 – Ceremony of hoisting the National Flags at NATO Headquarters in Brussels and informal meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers

20 April 2004 – The Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Mircea Geoană meets the Ambassadors of the NATO Member States accredited to Romania

10-12 May 2004 – Visit paid to Romania by NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, Mr. Jean Fournet and his participation in the seminar on “Changing Perceptions in South Eastern Europe".

13-14 May 2004 – NATO Secretary General, Mr. Jaap de Hoop Scheffer, pays a visit to Bucharest.

28 May - 1 June 2004 – NATO Parliamentary Assembly Spring Session takes place in Bratislava

14-15 June 2004 – Annual meeting of PfP Consortium of Defence Academies and Security Studies Institutes takes place in Bucharest.

28-29 June  2004 – NATO Summit in Istanbul  

13 October 2004 – Poiana Braşov hosts the informal meeting of NATO Defence Ministers

23-31 October 2004 – Research visit to Romania (and Bulgaria) paid by NATO Military Budget Committee.

12-16 November 2004 – Annual Session of NATO PA, Venice.

8-9 December 2004 – Meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Brussels

9-11 February 2004 – Informal meeting of NATO Defence Ministers in Nice (France)

2006

3 April 2006 – On the occasion of NATO’s anniversary, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in partnership with the Romanian Diplomatic Institute organized “NATO in the perspective of the Riga Summit” conference. NATO was represented by NATO Assistant Secretary General for Public Diplomacy, Mr. Jean Fournet.

27-28 April 2006 – Informal meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Sofia.

12 May 2006 – At NATO Headquarters, in a ceremony chaired by NATO Secretary General, Romania signed the establishment documents for NATO Assistance Fund/Partnership for Peace - OSCE/ENVSEC (Environment and Security Initiative) for the disposal of hazardous chemicals and pesticides in the Republic of Moldova. Romania, together with Belgium, took over the task of coordinator country for stage 1 of this project, in the context of holding the mandate of NATO Contact Point Embassy in Chişinău (CPE), for 2005-2006

2007

26 January 2007 – Meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Brussels 

28 March 2007 – NAC in Brussels adopted the decision regarding the organization of 2008 NATO Summit in Bucharest (2-4 April 2008) 

26-27 April 2007 – Informal meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Oslo 

29 October 2007 – Visit to Bucharest of NATO Secretary General, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer 

6-7 December 2007 – Meeting of NATO Foreign Ministers in Brussels 

January 2007 – December 2008Romania holds the second mandate as NATO Point of Contact Embassy in Chişinău; Romania had a substantial contribution to finalizing and opening  the NATO Information and Documentation Centre in Chişinău
