Staff categories

The Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs staff is divided in two categories – diplomatic/consular staff and administrative staff.

Diplomatic/consular staff
Romanian diplomats are typically engaged in drafting strategies and implementing national foreign policy and they will spend a proportion of their careers abroad working in our Embassies, High Commissions and Consulates. Consular staff will assist Romanian citizens abroad, issuing visas or arranging visits. Diplomats and consular officers must be flexible, intellectually inquisitive and open to change. They also must be proactive – identifying and resolving problems – and able to work as part of a team. The ability to speak foreign languages is a real asset.

Contractual/Administrative staff
Contractual/Administrative staff is engaged in activities related to institution internal management in areas such as secretarial work, information technology, finance and accounting, logistics, procurement and human resources. At this level, the Romanian MFA looks for people with all-round IT, administrative and organisational skills, customer service and invoice processing.
