Telephone conversation of the Romanian Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu with his Albanian counterpart, Gent Cakaj

The Minister of Foreign Affairs Bogdan Aurescu had a telephone conversation with the Minister-in-Office for Europe and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, Gent Cakaj, at the latter's initiative, on November 29, 2019.

The Albanian official addressed special thanks to Romania for the emergency assistance granted to Albania through the intervention of a Romanian search and rescue team, which was particularly useful. Minister Gent Cakaj also asked for Romania's support in Albania's efforts to manage the effects of the earthquake and reconstruction that would follow. He also mentioned the possibility of organizing an international donor conference for the Republic of Albania.

Minister Bogdan Aurescu reiterated his message of solidarity with the Albanian people and condolences to the bereaved families of dozens of deceased persons, as well as his wishes of quick recovery for the hundreds of injured persons following the earthquake that took place in Albania on November 26, 2019. He expressed the readiness of Romania to continue to support Albania in the following period and informed his Albanian counterpart that, at the level of the Romanian Government, further assistance modalities of Romania for Republic of Albania were being analysed.

The earthquake that took place in Albania on November 26, 2019 resulted in 49 dead, over 750 injured and considerable material damage.
