The talks of the two ministers focused on developing bilateral relations, continuing Romania's support for the European path of the Republic of Northern Macedonia and cooperation in the field of security, as future NATO allies.

The two senior officials highlighted the very good level of bilateral relations, including that of economic cooperation, which has growth potential. In this context, Bogdan Aurescu proposed resuming the steps for organizing the meeting of the Joint Intergovernmental Commission for Economic, Technical and Scientific Cooperation, as well as for a bilateral Business Forum.

Minister Bogdan Aurescu reiterated Romania's support for the opening negotiations for the accession of the Republic of Northern Macedonia to the European Union as soon as possible, given the reforms implemented and the strengthening of good neighbourly relations, including through the Prespa Agreement, which represents a model of reconciliation in the region.

In this context, the Romanian Foreign Affairs minister recalled the support offered by Romania, during the tenure of the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, for advancing Northern Macedonia in the EU accession process, and expressed regret at the lack of a positive decision regarding the opening of accession negotiations.
